My name is Vhutshilo Makananise. I hail from Lwamondo, Tshivhale, in Limpopo Province. I am the self-published author of The Evolution of My Consciousness. The synopsis of the book is that it is a memoir that reflects on the journey I have taken. This is an account of my 30 years of lived experience. I started with my childhood experience growing up in the villages of Tshivhale and the education I got. I have dwelled much on education from primary to tertiary and how that contributed to the evolution of my consciousness, hence the name of the book. I have given a state of the higher education sector, as I want to believe that because I have worked in this sector, I have formulated an opinion on how things are and how students can navigate this system. I have also highlighted the mismatch between what the universities offer and what employers want. So, I advocated for a more holistic approach that takes into account the realities we live in rather than just mass-produced degrees. I have also talked about the inequality that persists 26 years after democracy and linked it with the high unemployment that young people in this country face. I have concluded that I lived all my conscious life in a neo-apartheid South Africa.
